Waves for Change Learning Brief

Waves for Change uses sport to deliver mental health services to at-risk young people. When we play together, we make new friends, we build our confidence and we learn new skills that can change the way we engage with the world around us.

To enhance the natural benefits of Sport, Waves for Change developed The Five Pillar Framework, an evidence-based framework that combines the active ingredients of Mental Health interventions with the intrinsic social and psychologcial benefits of sport.

To help sports coaches, teachers, youth volunteers, child protection officers and anyone else working with youth deliver fun, effective, child friendly mental health programmes, we developed an integrated suite of coaching, programme design and training guides.
We’re happy to share the synthesis of findings of a research paper by Thandi Davies PhD which reflects the background, approach and recommended areas for improvement to our partnerships work in Khayelitsha.
